$46 challenge...Day 3

22/1/2014

Canned soup - 180 cals $1.35

2 burritos - 620 cals $1.18

Ravioli - 440 cals $.89

2 banana pb sandwiches - 885 cals $.85

Half Mac and cheese with bell pepper - 600 cals $1.30

$5.57 for the day and 2,725 calories. That bowl of Mac and cheese at 9pm really fucked me.

That now puts me $1.73 below my budget. Calories were definitely on the high side, which were definitely due to the m&c. I have one more box. That stuff is evil!

Eating healthy food is not always the cheapest. I know you know this, but canned soup and ravioli have to be full of sodium. Fresh, whole foods are better.

Oh yes you're absolutely right! It's usually the opposite. The cheaper and more processed the food the worse it is for you. I think there are some ways around this though. It's healthier to make your own soup than canned. It's healthier to eat at home than fast food. I would also say that in those specific instances it's cheaper as well. But on a caloric basis it can be cheaper to eat processed food than whole foods. Unless you have a garden which I'll talk about later.
