To all of the waiters and waitresses out there. The IRS is changing their code so that the mandatory 18% gratuity left for parties of 8 or more will be designated as a service charge instead of a tip.
This sucks for you and your employer because of all the extra income and taxes that have to be reported and paid.
This goes into effect 1/1/14, so be sure to let your owner or manager know. Many restaurants will abandon this practice just because of the pain of having to comply with this regulation.
Everyone else, do your servers a favor and always tip them in cash, not credit card.
