2014 was good, but not great, from a financial standpoint. My net worth increased by 7.7% which is good, but not exactly up to where I want it to be. I'd like for it to increase by at least 10%, but given the increase on average of 20% since the Great Recession I can't really complain.
I'm getting bored with this market and while it's nice to see your net worth grow steadily, I guess that's what we're all after. A nice crash where I could reload and find some great valuations would be much appreciated.
My tax rate dropped precipitously due to moving many of my assets to tax advantaged accounts and/or real estate which would probably be classified as the same thing. I've been doing this for a decade and it'll continue. However, there are going to have to be some high tax rate years because I have a number of big capital gains that will need to be realized before I can continue this.
This stock market I think is only going to increase at about 7% above inflation, which is actually great considering its valuation. However, I think this will continue until the big crash before the end of the decade is out.
I have a fair amount in the financial, energy, and currency markets, so hopefully these will outpace the market as a whole. If I can get myself into a very liquid position with a nice 20% gain before the big crash I'll be in a splendid place to carpe diem!
