Since my BHAG has been in effect for over a month, I've been very conscious of my driving habits. I've cut out the daily commutes to town for lunch and discovered it wasn't the cost of food, but the cost of transportation there that was so expensive!
When I go to Taco Bell for lunch I get the hard shell taco and bean burrito, both fresco (1.26 cents per calorie), along with two packets of fire sauce and one napkin, not to mention a heavy dose of OCD on the side. This runs me $2.23, which is $0.12 more than what it costs me in Orlando. WTF?!
It costs me 2.8 times this in transportation costs just to get there, which comes out to about 62 cents per mile or $6.20 round trip. Check out this website so that you can personalize with your own info. Something interesting that you'll notice is not the cost of gas, but your depreciation. That invisible cost that doesn't kick you in the nuts until you go to sell it for pennies on the dollar of what you paid for it!
