"When it's raining gold, reach for a bucket, not a thimble."
-Warren Buffett
Well groceries along with other things that you have to buy fall into this category because you have to buy them. So when you go to the grocery store and you see Buy One Get One free (BOGO) deals you're actually doubling your money by buying them. This is of course when you know you'll use something. If you don't think you'll use it, then it just turns out to be a huge waste.
Use these BOGO opportunities in the same way that there is a market crash in the stock market. When the stock market drops 50% you need to be buying! It's on sale! When food products or other consumerables drop by 50% you need to be buying also! Bring buckets when it's raining gold!
The average American family could save thousands by doing the following three steps:
1. Load up on BOGO products that you would normally buy. Go big or go home!
2. Don't waste any food. I feel like crying if I ever throw out food. I think of the poor farmer who had to labor so hard to get that food to me. As a result, I at most only throw away a plate full of food each year. Some years I've thrown away no food at all.
3. Get a grocery rewards credit card from Bank of America. You get 3% cash back and an extra 15% back on the amount you receive if you have a BoA checking account.
