Other than the fact that he over-dosed on heroin, Mr. Hoffman messed up his family's life by not preparing correctly in the potential case of his demise.
1. The last time he had his will updated was October 2004.
2. In that time he had 2 more children who were never mentioned in the will.
3. He accumulated many millions of dollars that weren't properly planned for.
4. His estate will owe close $14,000,000 out of his $35 million estate in taxes.
All of this could have been avoided if he had just updated his will after all of the children were born. Most likely all of them will be cared for properly, but paying $15,000,000 to the tax man because of piss poor planning is no excuse.
