If you're planning on going to Australia and/or New Zealand than I've got a way for you to do it with no ATM fees.
Prior to leaving, be sure to open a Bank of America checking account with a minimum amount so that you won't get charged a fee. When you get the debit card be sure to activate it with a 4 digit pin. Many ATMs over sees don't accept pins over 4 digits.
Once there you will be able to withdraw money from Westpac bank ATMs without a fee. The 2 banks have an agreement with each other for their customers.
I managed to be in those 2 countries for 3 weeks and only paid one fee, which was at the Wellington airport. I needed cash for a taxi to get to my hostel and I'm still
pissed about it!
