If you're a card member with American Express be sure to read the fine print in your policy (like I did). You'll discover that they give you a complimentary $100,000 worth of life insurance. In order to save some money be sure to lower your term life insurance policy by that amount and you'll probably save at least $100 a year. That's what I get quoted at anyway.
Be sure to put this with your will, so that it gets applied for, because I'm sure your spouse will forget about it at the time of your death.
That's the easy part. The harder question is do you get the regular cash back or the preferred cash back. Here's the difference...
Preferred gets 6% cash back on groceries whereas, regular gets 3%. You have to pay an $85 annual fee for the preferred, while regular is free. Which means that you have to spend an extra $2,834 on groceries per year to make up for it.
You also get 3% back on gas, but you're supposed to be using your Bank of America cash back card for that, so that doesn't matter.
Amex is a great card with wonderful customer service and lots of extras for its members. BUT IF YOU CAN'T CONTROL YOUR SPENDING, STEER CLEAR!!!
